First: Thanks for visiting/subscribing! It's awesome to know that people follow my blog all around the world. That makes me feel quite good about myself.
Second: Why are you so quiet? Come out and say something! That's what this post is all about. I want all you lurkers to come out and answer a few questions:
- Where are you from?
- What is your native language? What other languages do you speak?
- What are you currently reading (or writing)?
- Which book that you read in the last year was your favorite? Why?
Let's talk books, folks! Answer away.
germany
ReplyDeletegerman, english, some spanish
malazan book of the fallen vol 1
this years favourite: the wise man's fear.
i prefer to read books in the same language they are originally written. thank god i payed attention in english class, and did my B.A. in english literature/cultural studies... i would miss on a lot of good stuff!
my blog: http://fantasyfilter.blogspot.com/
looks like i could have "paid" more attention...
ReplyDeleteAber Deutsch ist so eine wunderbare Sprache, ja?
ReplyDeleteThat is probably really poor German, but so be it.
Glad to have you reading, though, especially from all the way in Germany! I have family from there, but have never been. I'd love to visit one day, though.
deutsch ist eine schöne sprache, stimmt!
ReplyDeletebut there aren't many good fantasy authors that write in german. so...
(you should have written "oder?" and not "ja?" at the end. =) )
"Aren't many" implies that there "are some." Who might they be? I'm curious, and I know a friend who might be curious too, since she knows far more German than I do.
ReplyDeletei read "the dwarves" (die zwerge) by Markus Heitz when i was a bit younger and really liked it. action-driven fantasy.
ReplyDeletebernhard hennen is pretty popular with his "the elves" novels. though there is no translation i think.
germany got some good authors, fantasy however is not their terrain... ;)
if you want some "fantastic" books with a lot of humor and rich in creativity i would go with books from Walter Moers. His "the city of dreaming books" is topnotch, as is the "alchemaster's apprentice" (the protagonist in this one is a clever cat ;) )
Thanks for the recommendations! I'll see if I can find English translations for some of those and I'll be sure to forward the information to my German-loving friend.
