9/11

There's not a lot to say about this day. For Americans it has a lot of importance, being one of the few days in our history where were literally grabbed and shook violently awake. Those metaphorical hands brought our attention to the fact that we're not perfect, we're not entirely safe...

With this day in mind I would like to send an enormous thank you to all our troops, wherever you may be. Without you this country would be nothing. I don't care what anyone thinks about the war. Our troops deserve our respect, no matter what war they are fighting. I hope they bring you all home soon and safe.

And to the families of those killed in 9/11, I hope you can find a little joy in this day, even though represents so much grief and terror.

And to our fire fighters and police officers, thank you for all you have done to make this country as safe as it is at home. Thanks to all of you who responded to the attack and tried to save what lives you could.

We will never forget.

I forgot ... Then I was reminded and it brought back all the pain of that music test I was taking. *Sigh*

Seriously, why are you thanking the emergency services? They were, y'know, doing their job. If they hadn't responded they might well have been fired. Yeah, dead heroic. Yes, it's brave to walk into a burning building or whatever, but they chose to do it for a living. They obviously have bravery inherent in their genes or something.

Why yes, I am a heartless cow.

Did you hear about that young girl whose family forced her to go to an airport with explosives strapped around her body? She told the security folks what they'd done, and now she's wanted by the terrorist group because she didn't blow herself up. That's bravery.

  2. I'm thanking them for their continued service and dedication, even though they get paid next to nil for risking their lives. I'm thanking those that died in the towers when they fell.

I'm sorry if you don't, but I have the utmost respect for the people who risk their lives so I can enjoy the relative freedom and safety in this country. Without them we'd likely be like Russia...

I'm sure Russia has some damn good emergency servicemen too.

  4. Mmhmm, and I'm sure it's working wonders to stop their rampant crime...or corruption for that matter.
